Most women dream of having soft, clean and nourished feet, however, this is not so easy to accomplish. The hard and cracked skin on the heels and feet is a quite common problem for many people and is difficult to treat too. Thankfully, there is one simple ingredient that can help– baking soda.

Baking soda is a versatile ingredient with numerous health benefits. It has antifungal, anti-bacterial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, and can do wonders for our skin and hair.

People have been using the crystalline powder to treat all kinds of skin problems, including cracked heels and calluses. Rubbing your feet with baking soda will destroy fungi and accelerate the healing of small cracks and wounds, while also eliminating the hard calluses on your feet. A baking soda bath after getting home from work will relax your feet while also getting rid of the odor.

Baking soda is an alkaline ingredient which can change the pH of your skin and protect it from numerous conditions. However, it should be used with care– a baking soda bath should not last for more than 15-20 minutes. The bright side is that you can include other ingredients such as essential oils in your foot bath which will further amplify its impact and fix even more issues. Here are a few nice baking-soda based baths that can treat different skin issues:

A CLASSIC BAKING SODA BATH

Preheat a bowl of water to 38-39C, then add 2 tablespoons of baking soda in it. Soak your legs for 10-15 minutes to relax them and get rid of the odor.

BAKING SODA AND SALT BATH

This bath is great if you need to soften your skin. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda in about 2 l. of water and sprinkle a handful of salt in it as well. Soak your feet in the mix for 7-8 minutes in order to soften your skin, then rub with a pumice stone to remove the hard skin and calluses.

BAKING SODA AND SOAP BATH

This bath is best for cleaning your skin. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a bit of liquid soap in 3 liters of water, then soak your feet in for 10 minutes. The bath will clean your skin well and also make it softer.

BAKING SODA AND ESSENTIAL OILS BATH

A foot soak with baking soda and essential oils will hydrate and soften your skin. You can use any essential oil you like, but you should remember to dilute it with a little bit of olive oil or alcohol first.

BAKING SODA AND MILK BATH

Add a quart of milk and a teaspoon of baking soda in 2 l. of water, then soak your feet in it to soften calluses and hard skin and prevent fungal infections on your feet.

BAKING SODA AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE BATH

If you’re suffering from cracked heels and you can’t solve the issue no matter what, this great foot soak can help. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in a bowl of water, then soak your feet in it for around 15 minutes. Pat them dry with a soft towel afterward, then rub with a pumice stone and repeat the process every few days for best results.

BAKING SODA AND IODINE BATH

Iodine is an effective disinfectant that can heal cracked heels and remove fungal infections also. Add 2 tablespoons of iodine and baking soda each in 2 liters of water, then soak your feet in the bath for 10 minutes.

BAKING SODA AND CLAY BATH

This bath works terrific against calluses, weakened nails or dry skin on the feet. Simply add 4 tablespoons of clay and 2 tablespoons of baking soda in 2 l. of water then soak your feet in the solution.

BAKING SODA BATH TIPS

In general, experts don’t recommend using baking soda foot baths every day. 2-3 times a week should be just enough to solve any kind of issue. After you’re done with the bath, you need to rinse your feet with lukewarm water and pat them dry with a towel.

Proceed by using a thick layer of a high-quality moisturizing cream that will keep the skin on your feet hydrated. Always use cotton towels for your feet and wear cotton socks which enable your skin to breathe. Finally, taking a shower after soaking your feet in a bath will improve your circulation and reinvigorate your skin.

Although the baths work great against fungal infections, they will disappear only if you detect and eliminate the root of the issue. Fungal infections often occur due to wearing inappropriate socks and shoes which don’t allow the skin to breathe, so to fully resolve the problem, you’ll also have to solve these issues.
