Aging brings unpleasant changes to our body and is the main reason for a variety of diseases and conditions. The first signs of aging appear on our physical features in the form of wrinkles and other skin problems. However, it isn’t just the skin that’s affected – our brain ages as well and loses certain sets of skills, which can seriously affect your way of life. However, you should know that there’s a way to regenerate the brain cells and keep it healthy and properly working.

According to a neuroscientist named Sandrine Thuret, we can regenerate our brain neurons regardless of age. Thuret recently discovered a new way of activating the process of neurogenesis. This was previous thought impossible, but Dr. Thuret has shown that we really can regenerate our neurons and keep our brain going strong.

Neurogenesis is a process in which neurons are generated from neural stem cells and progenitor cells as well. Neurogenesis occurs during embryogenesis in all mammals, but goes dormant later in life, which results in problems such as memory loss. The process of adult neurogenesis occurs in two primary brain areas – the hippocampus and the subventricular zone. This was discovered in the 60s by a scientist named Joseph Atman, although his work was pretty unrecognized until 3 decades later, when scientists began to grasp the importance of neurogenesis.

After thorough research, science has concluded that neurogenesis is responsible for many brain functions such as learning and memory and plays a role in health problems such as stress, depression and Alzheimer’s disease. Although it was previously though impossible, Sandrine Thuret has found a way to restart the process of neurogenesis and keep your brain and memory sharp.

Eating a healthy diet has been found to be quite important for proper brain function. Healthy foods will promote the regeneration of neurons in the brain. Turmeric is one of the best ingredients important for neurogenesis, and will also improve the function of other organs in your body such as liver, pancreas and kidneys.

Staying physically active is highly important for our brain and the process of neurogenesis. You don’t need anything much – even a simple 45-minute walk every day can help.

Green tea can increase the number of 5-bromo-2′-desoxiuridinade cells in the hippocampus, which will result in better brain function.

Blueberries are rich in flavonoids which can stimulate the process of neurogenesis and improve your mood and focus. Consuming them regularly will boost your body’s antioxidant levels and improve the function of your brain.

Several studies have shown that fasts can clean the brain cells and neurons and keep the brain sharp and properly functioning.

Omega-3 fatty acids are another important compound for our brain and for the process of neurogenesis. They can be found in foods such as salmon, flaxseeds, avocados, etc.

Like any other process, neurogenesis has its pros and cons, but it’s not harmful in any way. Recent studies have shown that it can significantly improve the function of our brain, so we suggest sticking to the aforementioned tips in order to stay mentally sharp even despite aging.
