Do you know what golden milk is? It’s a mixture of herbs and coconut milk, warmed enough to form a tasty and nutritious beverage that can be consume during the day. It’s a valuable part of Ayurveda medicine where it’s called Haidi ka doodh, and its roots are deep in the Indian cuisine. The mixture is used for detox and against inflammation, high blood sugar and other health problems.
Golden milk consists of coconut oil, turmeric, ginger, black pepper and coconut milk. Honey is often added to enrich the taste, but the effects of the mixture are mostly dependent on the health benefits of turmeric. Turmeric is a beneficial spice which has been used against liver disease, muscle pain, arthritis, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal problems and skin issues for centuries. The spice is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent which is especially effective against autoimmune and chronic diseases.
Turmeric cleanses the liver and eliminates free radicals, regulates your blood sugar levels, relieves colds and improves digestion, while preventing degenerative cognitive diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Ginger can relieve nausea, colds, muscle and menstrual pain besides improving digestion and regulating your blood sugar levels.
Black pepper is helpful against anemia, indigestion and colds, while it also boosts the absorption of turmeric.
Coconut oil boosts your immune system, improves digestion, prevents kidney and liver disease, promotes better heart health, aids weight loss and improves your skin, while coconut milk is rich in essential nutrients that improve your overall health.
Honey is an antimicrobial agent that can relieve allergies and colds besides helping you get rid of sleep deprivation.
The health benefits of the ingredients are more than enough reason for you to try the turmeric milk – here’s how to prepare it:
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 2 cups of coconut milk

- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- A pinch of black pepper
